Lagos Settlement Week

The Lagos Settlement Week (LSW) is the first of its kind in the judicial history of Nigeria. The Lagos Settlement Week is "a week" set aside by the Chief Judge of Lagos State in the year when disputants have an opportunity to have their cases mediated at no cost to the parties.

The Lagos Settlement Week (LSW) was first organized in 2009. The programme won the coveted Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) United Kingdom Awards 2010 for its ability to generate awareness of ADR in Lagos State. The Excellence Awards was a recognition of significant contributions made in the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and Conflict Management in the UK and Internationally. The LMDC was one of seven (7) nominees under the category of Awards for significant achievement in the field of dispute resolution and won the Award under this category for the creation of ADR awareness through the SW Programme.

The Settlement Week Programmes include: the Lagos Settlement Week (LSW), the District Settlement Week (DSW), Online Settlement Month/Week, etc. The Lagos Settlement Week (LSW) Programme is held bi-annually for the High Court of Lagos State in the Ikeja and Lagos Judicial Divisions respectively while the District Settlement Week (DSW) Programme has been held in the Lagos, Ikeja, Yaba, Ikorodu, Badagry, Epe, Eti-Osa Magisterial Districts.

Restorative Justice (RJ)

Restorative Justice in Schools Project (RJISP): In commemoration of its 20th year anniversary of Dispute Resolution Excellence, The Lagos Multi-Door Courthouse launched the Restorative Justice Youths and Juveniles Reform Programme. One of its projects is the RJISP. This project seeks to empower students to air their grievances and resolve conflicts on their own, in peer mediated small groups and under the supervision of trained Restorative Justice Facilitators.

The Commercial Intervention Strategy (CIS)

The Commercial Intervention Strategy (CIS) is aimed at increasing Case Referrals to the Lagos Multi-Door Courthouse (LMDC), increasing publicity and generating revenue. The strategy for the CIS is to identify and engage sectors in need of dispute resolution and reach out to companies within these sectors with a view to assisting in the resolution of their disputes.
